Mindly.Social Discord Guide
For 2023 we decided to create a Discord server for Mindly.Social after multiple users asked us if one was available. Originally, I didn't like the idea because it was weird to have a social media platform (Discord) to a social networking site, it seemed redundant and counter intuitive to me. But then it hit me, why limit the ways people could interact? So we created the Discord server and to our delight people joined it, and they enjoyed it.

Discord Rules/Guidelines
In addition to the rules we already have on the Mindly.Social website, we've also got some rules specific to Discord (although most are redundant) since it is a different platform after all:
- Be nice to everybody always. No hate speech, slurs, or directing negativity towards others.
- Stay tasteful and legal.
- Use spoilers when appropriate for NFSW or sensitive topics/media.
- NO SPAM!
- English only.
- No users under 13 years of age.
- Use common sense, if you have to ask if it's allowed it probably isn't.
Topics/Role Selection
I subscribe to the mindset of minimalism, don't show me the things I don't want to see. But I also don't want an algorithm deciding so I put the power in the user's hands. In the very top channel (#about-us) we have a post where you can pick and choose the topics you see, since this is a "general purpose" Discord, there are A LOT of channels and topics!

By default, a new user's channel list will look like this:

If you opted for all of the roles, it'd blow up to this size:

You can add and remove topics/roles as often as you'd like just by clicking the button, it's a toggle so clicking the same button a second time will remove the channel/role.
About the Topics
Lastly, I wanted to say that the topics are merely suggestions at this point, it's okay if you go off-top in a channel, you won't be banned for it. Ideally if there's a conversation in #food about baking cookies then you don't want to interrupt it by talking about rebuilding a car engine or something completely off topic, so common sense is best here. If that conversation about baking cookies turns into a chat about a weekend hike in the mountains where you took a billion photos of the nature and wildlife, that's fine but just be aware that sometimes moving to a new channel is an option.
Additionally, if you find a topic is missing and the current #off-topic channel is being filled with it, please make the suggestion to our @Admins team and we'll be happy to discuss and add it. 😉
Above all, have fun and enjoy yourselves!
